The Bahamas Reef Environment Educational Foundation (BREEF) is a non‑governmental, non‑profit Bahamian foundation concerned with educating our people about the value of—and need for conserving—our marine environment. BREEF works across the islands to promote ocean literacy, environmental stewardship and the sustainable use of our natural resources.
Who We Are
Our Story
Founded in 1993, BREEF began as a grassroots effort to address declining fish stocks, dying reefs and coastal degradation. The organisation has grown into a national leader in environmental education and marine conservation, reaching thousands of students, restoring critical habitats and shaping sustainable practices through partnerships and advocacy. BREEF’s multi‑pronged, grass‑roots approach ensures a healthy future for all Bahamian stakeholders and visitors.

Mission
To promote the conservation of the Bahamian marine environment that sustains our way of life.

Vision
A nation where every Bahamian understands the value of our marine environment and actively participates in protecting it for future generations.
